The newly launched air route operates daily, with inbound flight MH522 departing from the Malaysian capital at 9:05 p.m. local time and arriving in Shenzhen at 1:15 a.m. the following day. The outbound flight, MH523, leaves Shenzhen at 2:45 a.m. and lands in Kuala Lumpur at 6:45 a.m. local time.

As a major aviation gateway in Southeast Asia, Kuala Lumpur is a top destination for both business and leisure travelers from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The new service provides travelers with seamless connections through Kuala Lumpur to other Malaysian cities, as well as destinations across Southeast Asia and Oceania.

Bryan Foong, chief operating officer of the aviation division at Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, expressed strong confidence in the Chinese market. He noted that the route will enhance the airline’s ability to serve premium and leisure travelers while strengthening connectivity between Malaysia, Shenzhen — one of the most dynamic cities in the GBA — and the broader international market.

Currently, the Shenzhen airport connects to 27 destinations across nine Southeast Asian countries, offering more than 200 outbound flights per week. The airport has increased frequencieses on routes to cities such as Vientiane, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok this year, leading to steady growth in passenger traffic across the region.

With Malaysia Airlines now a member of the Oneworld Alliance, the Shenzhen airport now hosts member airlines from all three major global alliances — Star Alliance, SkyTeam, and Oneworld, underscoring the airport’s growing global connectivity and its position as an international aviation hub.

To meet the surging demand for summer vacations, family trips, and overseas study tours, a spokesperson for the Shenzhen airport said the airport will add more flights to Southeast Asian destinations like Jakarta, Phuket, and Singapore. Domestically, the airport is also expanding its network to popular tourist destinations, including Dunhuang, Lijiang, Yining, and Hohhot, providing travelers with a wider range of options during the peak summer travel season.
